About the Game
Pokemon has always been a cherished part of my life. As a youngster, I relished the challenge of assembling teams to take on Gym Leaders, Elite Four members, and formidable Trainers in epic boss battles. It wasn’t until I played exceptional hacks like Pokemon Unbound, Radical Red, and Inclement Emerald that I considered creating my own game. These hacks showcased diversity in obtainable Pokemon, modern battle mechanics, and a challenging difficulty level, particularly in boss battles. The concept of challenging “boss battles” fascinated me, and I was inspired to create my own Pokemon experience.
With the generous contribution of resources from the community, including RHH, DizzyEgg, and PRET, I embarked on this journey with specific principles in mind:
- Create a game that is difficult yet fair, rating it at a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.
- Align with modern Pokemon game entries.
- Streamline the player experience.
Regarding the third point, I wanted players to swiftly build their teams without the need for extensive EV training, IV optimization, or capturing Pokemon with ideal natures. Grinding endlessly for experience was also not part of the plan. The project aimed to provide players with a challenging yet enjoyable Hoenn experience, much like the one I personally desired. While the game largely follows the vanilla Emerald storyline, players will encounter new Trainers and engaging activities along the way.
With all of this in mind, I am thrilled to share my Emerald difficulty hack with the Emerald Horizons community.
